Man killed by relatives

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police recovered the body of a 38-year-old LIC agent from Khandagiribari village on Wednesday. The man was allegedly beaten to death by two of his relatives. According to the police the deceased, Prabodh Nayak (38) had been staying with his family in Khandagiribari area. Sources said he was killed by two of his brothers-in-law for allegedly torturing his wife, Narmada. Police are looking for the accused.

HC judges

Cuttack: Three additional judges of Orissa High Court —Justices B.K.Nayak, S.K.Mishra and C.R.Dash — were elevated as permanent judge. Chief Justice V. Gopala Gowda administered the oath of office to them on Wednesday. Home secretary U.N. Behera was present on the occasion. All three were appointed additional judge on October 7, 2009.

Worker death

Keohjhar: Tension sparked off at Tata Sponge Iron plant at Bileipada under Joda police limits on Wednesday following death of a contractual worker Upendra Mahakuda (23), of local Birikala village. Hundreds of workers trooped to the accident site and locked the main gate of the plant. “Mahakuda died late on Tuesday night after being trapped in the conveyor belt,” said Jagannath Acharya, inspector-in-charge of Joda police station. The workers were demanding a job for the kin of the deceased and Rs 20 lakh ex gratia.

Maoist held

Rourkela: Sundargarh police on Wednesday arrested Maoist Gulab alias Phulchand Lohar from Jharabeda village. Police have also seized a pistol and five rounds of live cartridge from him. According to the police, the Maoist has nearly 19 pending cases against him at different police stations. He was also working as the area commander in Digha. In another incident, police have recovered huge amount of explosives from a Maoist camp in Rayagarah district.

Website

Bhubaneswar: The website of Utkal University was alleged hacked on Wednesday. The home page displayed unwanted information for several hours. Vice-chancellor Prof. Prasant Kumar Sahoo said the details could only be verified after a thorough investigation by experts. On the other hand, the host website denied of hacking and explained the incident as a virus attack.

Post-mortem

Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Capital Hospital on Wednesday as relatives and family members of two deceased persons alleged delay in post-mortem. According to the family members of one Guna Mallick from Balipatna, who died on Tuesday, the body was kept in the morgue for more than a day. Similarly, relatives of another person Basudev Rao, who died on the railway tracks on Wednesday, alleged that the doctor, who was supposed to carry out the post-mortem was busy with personal work.
