Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal's youth wing will organise a youth convention “Sankalp Sankranti Samavesh” on August 9, at Cuttack. BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the youth convention.JD youth wing president Sanjay Dasburma said: “A preparatory meeting to this effect was organised on Sunday. Most of the senior leaders attended the meeting. The youth wing will take the different flagship programme of Naveen Patnaik government to the panchayat level.”

Fee hike

Cuttack: Cuttack-Bhubaneswar DAV Parent’s Forum has unanimously decided to continue with its legal battle over fee hike if the DAV school authorities move Supreme Court against the recent high court verdict.

Summit feat

Bhubaneswar: A team of 20 NSS volunteers of Utkal University scaled the 12,500ft Beas Kund peak of the Himalyan Mountains in Himachal Pradesh. The team comprising 10 boys and 10 girls, who had set out for their journey on June 10, reached the peak after trekking 56 km. This is the first out of six attempts where an NSS team from Utkal University successfully achieved this feat.ll India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). The protesters criticised the state for not controlling micro-finance institutes that had been harassing poor women in rural areas. Puspa Das, president of the AIDWA, said that there were nearly 50 non-governmental micro-finance institutions in the state. “Most of these agencies do not follow SBI guidelines. They are supposed to charge 11 per cent interest as they get money at a rate of 7 per cent. They are supposed to keep 4 per cent margin for operational cost. At times, they charge 21 per cent interest rate,” she said.
