Bhubaneswar: The state government on Thursday said Posco-India could start its work over 2,000 acres, so far acquired by the administration for its mega-steel project. “The state government has so far acquired over 2,000 acres for Posco steel plant. The company could easily start its work over the acquired land,' chief secretary B.K. Patnaik said. “Posco-India had proposed to set up 12mtpa steel facility in three different modules and 2,000 acres were sufficient to start work,' Patnaik said. Bhubaneswar: The Rourkela plant-site police on Thursday arrested a techie for kidnapping an MTech student of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, and trying to blackmail her. The 26-year-old youth, identified as Anwar Ashik, an engineering student at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang, had been using some objectionable pictures of her (which was taken earlier in 2007 when she was in an inebriated state) to blackmail her. The boy forced her to accompany him to a hotel room and was threatening her when the police rescued her. He has been booked under sections 354, 294 and 506 of the IPC and forwarded to court,' said the police. Bhubaneswar: Tension spread on the campus of Maharshi College of Natural Law, when two groups of students clashed with each other. One student was left seriously injured in the incident. The clash took place when one group of students opposed the entry of outsiders on the college campus. Bhubaneswar: The latest edition of Electricity Laws in Orissa: A Compendium of Acts, Rules, Regulations and Orders was released by CESU chairman-cum-CEO Bijoy Chandra Jena on Thursday. The book, compiled by G.B. Sahu, contains 39 acts, rules, regulations, office orders of the Centre and the state government, regulatory commission, CEA and others. The book would act as a valuable reference tool for all power utilities in charge of generation, transmission and distribution in the state.
