Jajpur: Police on Thursday registered a case against fifteen persons for allegedly molesting a minor girl and shooting the incident on their mobile phones after the case went viral on social media.
The police on Thursday arrested an accused involved in the incident. He has been identified as Babuli Puhan of Marthapur village. He was forwarded to the local court and was later remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
However, the police reportedly swung into action only after the molestation video appeared on social media and created a resentment among people. When they molestation survivor's father had reported the matter to the police three days ago, they refused to even accept a formal complaint on the issue. The cops sat on the issue for three days.
Upon the instruction of Jajpur additional superintendent of police, Jajpur sub-divisional police officer Kedarnath Sahoo is personally monitoring the case. The police have already studied the video footage and identified all the accused on the basis of the video footage. All the accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Pocso Act.
"We have registered a case and identified all 15 accused involved in the crime on the basis of a footage that had gone viral on social media. We have arrested one of the accused and are confident of being able to arrest the other accused very soon," said Sahoo.
He said that apart from monitoring the investigation into the incident, he would also look into why the local police had refused to receive the FIR from the father of the victim who had gone to the Danagadi police outpost to lodge a complaint against the culprits on June 18. "Action will be taken if any police officer is found guilty," he said.
