Sambalpur, Jan. 3: Bargarh police today arrested a person for allegedly duping a 39-year-old man of his kidney during an illegal transplant. The accused, Dasharathi Dora, 40, is a sub-treasury officer at Bhatli in Bargarh.
Dasharathi was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim, Anil Swami, at Bargarh police station last night. Dasharathi allegedly took Swami to a hospital for treatment of stomach pain and got one of his kidneys removed there. The kidney was allegedly transplanted on Dasharathi's elder brother Raghabram Dora, who had been suffering from renal disease since 2013.
Swami alleged that the kidney transplantation was conducted illegally and that he was not even given any financial assistance.
He was allegedly admitted to a private hospital with a forged voter's identity card under the fictitious name of one Jayaram Dora, who was introduced to the hospital as another brother of Raghabram.
"We are probing the matter," said inspector in-charge of Bargarh Town police station B. Haripal.
