Rourkela: Biramitrapur and Bansjore police of Jharkhand rescued a woman and arrested the man accused of attempting to kidnap her.
Sourabh K. Sahu, 30, of Rashulgarh in Bhubaneswar said he was in love with the 25-year-old woman, who worked as a staff nurse in the Kuanrmunda public health centre.
On Thursday, the woman was returning from Raibaga on the Odisha-Jharkhand border. She went there, along with a team, to conduct an eye check-up camp. The team was travelling in a Bolero and Sahu was following them in a Maruti Wagon R. Near the Amco-Simco crossing, he intercepted the Bolero.
"When the driver confronted him, Sahu slapped and threatened him of dire consequences," said Biramitrapur sub-divisional police officer Prakash Patra.
The scared driver did not protest as Sahu got into the Bolero and started physically abusing the woman. "He kicked and dragged her out of the vehicle by pulling her hair," Patra said.
"Then he pushed her into his car and drove in speed towards Raibaga," Patra said. He kept hitting her as drove the car, he said.
The Bolero driver informed the matter to the home guard, who alerted Biramitrapur police. Soon, Raibaga police also was alerted and they blocked the road. The police said Sahu was travelling towards Ranchi in such a rage that he could have killed one of the ASIs on duty.
"Bansjore police placed a road block to stop him, which he managed to jump and move towards Ranchi," Patra said. A joint team of Biramitrapur and Bansjore police and five cops on bike managed to stop after a couple of kilometres.
