Cuttack, Feb. 20: Arrested IAS officer Partha Sarathi Mishra, who the state vigilance has taken on remand, had paid more than Rs 82 lakh over a year ago to his former wife and daughter following the couple's separation.

This adds to the problems of Mishra, the former managing director of the Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited, who was arrested on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Mishra is facing corruption charges following seizure of Rs 2.14 lakh from his possession and detection of assets estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore in his name.

The government suspended him on February 18.

According to a judgment issued by Orissa High Court following implementation of its alimony order, Mishra had by January 5, 2016, given bank drafts of Rs 48 lakh in the name of his wife and Rs 20 lakh in the name of his daughter. He had also handed over two Federal Bank Limited certificates - one with maturity value of Rs 7,44,274 and another Rs 7,07,317 to his daughter, who was entitled to receive them on maturity.

The high court had drawn up the terms of settlement between his Mishra and his wife on April 22, 2015.

The terms of the settlement were implemented by January 5, 2016. Accordingly, the high court recorded that "there remained no dispute between them".

The case records say Mishra's marriage with his estranged wife was solemnised on July 11, 1993, and a daughter was born to them on June 3, 1996.

Since his arrest, Mishra has been remanded in jail custody. The special vigilance court in Cuttack had rejected his bail plea on Saturday after the anti-corruption wing sought his remand for further investigation.

"We had sought to take Mishra on remand for five days. The special judge (vigilance), Cuttack, Rama Shankar Hota allowed us to take him on remand from tomorrow (February 21 at 11am till 11am on February 23," said Ajay Patnaik, special public prosecutor (vigilance).

Before that, he was additional secretary of the department of micro, small and medium enterprises.
