Workshop
A workshop by the National Institute of Securities Markets — an educational initiative by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) — was conducted at the Mother’s Public School on December 19. Students of classes VIII, IX and X took part in the workshop and had a chance to interact with P.C. Mahapatra, the spokesperson of the programme. As a part of the programme, a National Financial Literacy Assessment Test (NCFE-NFLAT) was conducted for the students. Rajat Bhatta, a Class X student secured All-India Rank-50 and was one of the three students selected from Odisha. He will be receiving a cash award of Rs 2,000 from SEBI.

Drawing competition
Around 300 students from various schools in the state took part in a drawing competition on the topic “Education for All” at the Indira Gandhi Park on February 2.
Organised by Tatwa Technology Ltd, a leading IT company of Eastern India, the competition was held for two age group categories — junior (classes VI-VII) and sub-junior (classes III-V). Ayaskant Mohanty, managing director, Tatwa Technology, said: “Every year the organisation has been trying to voice out on social issues and this year we are talking about education for all. This drawing competition has been organised to involve parents and young minds to contribute to the issue.”
Health camp
As many as 40 students of Mother’s Business School along with their teachers organised a health camp at Mother's Public School auditorium for the grandmothers and mothers of the slums around the school.
The health check-up camp organised on February 1 included bone density test, blood sugar test and haemoglobin test along with blood pressure test.
All the faculty and support staff of Mother’s Public School and students of Mother’s Business School went through this check-up as well.
Sports festival
More than 1,000 students took part in the Second Rourkela Steel Plant Sports Festival. The festival was organised by the Rourkela Steel Plant every year to identify and groom budding sporting talents. More than 35 schools took part in the four-day event. The participants competed in six events namely athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling and table tennis.
Athletics meet
The National Day Celebration Committee (NDCC) organised Inter School sub-divisional level Kiranbala and S.N. Mohanty Memorial Athletic Meet-2014” at Barbil in which 28 school of the vicinity took part. Around 600 children took part in the three days programme. There were various track and field events in which the students took part. Master Ankit Gupta of Class IX stood first in four individual events and had the privilege to win the Individual Championship Trophy. Jindal School, Barbil, had the honour to win the championship by the chief guest Dillip Mishra, chairman of Barbil Municipality.
Prolific panorama
Students at the DAV Chandrashekharpur put up a display of over 300 projects on various subjects at their annual project display organised on December 27. Titled “Prolific Panorama” the display included projects by students on maths, science, social science, computer art and craft, languages and so on. Students also staged one act plays and recitations as part of the event. The event was inaugurated by chairman of the school M.M. Panda and was attended by students and teachers of many schools in the city.
Annual day
Students of Sainik School, Bhubaneswar, put forth a spectacular show by depicting the culture of the country and Odisha as part of the 52nd annual day celebrations of the school on 28th December. Principal of the School K.C. Taneja presented the annual report of the school and briefed about the achievements of the cadets during the year 2013. Commissioner of police Rajendra Kumar Sharma, the chief guest, on this occasion appreciated the contribution of Sainik School in preparing the cadets not only for defence services, but also making them responsible citizens of the country.
