Bhubaneswar, Aug. 14: Odissi dancer Puspita Mishra and her disciplines performed at a concert hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations at Rabindra Mandap in the city.
Last evening, the artistes presented various sequences of Odissi dance in group and solo items.
The dancers began with a mangalacharan as a tribute to the divine before proceeding with the performances. Later, there were compositions depicting versatile themes from the female divinity to the mischief and romantic tales of Lord Krishna. In her solo recital, Puspita, who did her postgraduate in sociology, gracefully depicted an episode of Radha and Krishna. The audience appreciated the show.
"The artistes chose wonderful compositions for the Odissi concert. It was an enjoyable performance," said Pratibha Pradhan, a dance lover.
"The sequence of the Mahisasuramardini was, in particular, impressive for the interesting formations of the troupe," she said.
"The council is hosting a number of cultural events in the city to promote culture of Odisha and other states and countries. We have a series of events planned for the second half of the year - that will include artistes from various parts of the world coming to Bhubaneswar and artistes of Odisha showcasing their talent outside," said the council's director, Bhubaneswar chapter, R.R. Chatterjee.
The council was initially based in Cuttack on the Ravenshaw University premises, but in June, it shifted its office to Bhubaneswar. Last evening's concert was hosted in association with the state culture department.
