Bhubaneswar: Pipili police have detained one person in connection with the attack on the local block chairman, Yudhistir Swain, on Monday night. Swain has sustained injuries in his left thigh and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. The police are looking into the involvement of Swain’s political rivals. Two motorcycles, one pistol and some wearing apparels of the accused, thrown 100m away, have been seized from the spot. Fearing tension in the area, two platoons of police forces have been deployed at Pipili bazar. All the shops and business establishments in the area remained closed on Tuesday. Bhubaneswar: Autorickshaw operators in the city on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of Kharavela Nagar police station, protesting against the alleged police atrocity against an autorickshaw operator on Monday night. Nearly 50 autorickshaw operators gathered in front of the police station and raised anti-police slogans. They alleged that an assistant sub-inspector at Balianta police station had manhandled an auto driver, Jitendra Swain, after the cop’s car had a head on collision with Swain’s auto. Later, the police left both the parties on a personal recognisance bond. BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested a community development project officer in Rayagada district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
