Record number of sailors finish training

Bhubaneswar: INS Chilika witnessed a record number of sailors complete their training during this session. As many as 1,643 senior secondary recruits, 247 navy (general duty), 262 machinery repairman and 32 navy (domestic branch) have successfully completed their training. They are now competent to man the front line ships, air squadrons and submarines of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

Burglary

BHUBANESWAR: Rourkela police on Friday arrested a person on charges of burglary and recovered Rs 35 lakh from his possession. The accused, Raju Reddy, had burgled the office of a senior private college officer based at Chhend in the city and was working as a driver in the same college. Cops arrested him after he failed to give satisfactory answers about the cash he was carrying. He later confessed to the crime.

Loot foiled

BHUBANESWAR: A loot attempt at a private bank in Keonjhar on Friday was foiled after bank officials and the customers of the bank got the better of the masked goons. While two goons were caught, five managed to flee. Two revolvers, 10 live bombs, 10 live cartridges and a Yamaha motorcycle were seized from their possession.

Convicted

BHUBANESWAR: A retired revenue inspector of Balasore on Friday was convicted on charges of accepting illegal gratification for issuing a caste certificate. He has been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment besides being slapped with a fine of Rs 500. The case was under trial in the court of the special judge vigilance, Balasore.
