Demolition of illegal structures resumes

Cuttack: The development authority resumed demolition of unauthorised religious structures on Friday. Three small roadside temples at Mahanadi Vihar were razed amid tight security arrangements. The authorities have identified nearly 35 unauthorised religious structures that will be demolished in a phase-wise manner. So far around 10 structures have been felled.

Railway plan

Bhubaneswar: Ongoing rail projects between Puri and Barang will be expedited to ensure their completion before Nabakalebar festival in July next year. Chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati directed the state government officials to see that the projects are completed within stipulated time.

Death

Cuttack: Ayush Singh, 23-year-old son of IPS officer Abhaya, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their Cantonment road residence on Friday. Ayush was studying law in Kochi and had come home early this week. A case of unnatural death case has been registered with the Mangalabag police station.

Special trains

Bhubaneswar: The South Eastern Railway will run nine pairs of weekly superfast premium special trains between Santragachi and Puri and 17 pairs of biweekly superfast Janasadharan specials between Santragachi and Chennai between September 18 and November 15 keeping in view rush in the festive season.

Cash snatched

Kendrapara: Two motorcycle-borne criminals snatched Rs 1.70 lakh cash from a panchayat executive officer near Navodyaya Vidya-laya junction on the Cuttack-Chandballi state highway on Friday afternoon.

Quack held

Kendrapara: Police on Friday arrested Jober Ahmed, a fake physician, who was running an illegal ultrasound clinic in Aul marketplace. The health department officials had earlier sealed the clinic following detection of discrepancies in its operation.

Sawmill sealed

Kendrapara: Forest and police personnel on Friday shut down an illegal sawmill near Gop Chowk here and arrested the proprietor of the unit. Logs and machinery worth Rs 4 lakh were confiscated by the squad.

Injured

Balasore: Maheswar Singh, 60, of Berhampur in Nilgiri sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a wild bear on Friday. He was initially admitted to the headquarter hospital and later shifted to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack.

Dengue

Balasore: A medical team has been rushed to Basta after a number of Dengue cases were reported in the area. Out of the five patients, admitted to the district headquarter hospital here, four are from the block.
