House session in Aug

Bhubaneswar: The monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly will start on August 20 and continue till August 27. There will be six working days and a private members’ day during this period.

Talent hunt

Bhubaneswar: The state government has announced a chief minister’s trophy to promote spirit of competition among creative youths. The culture department will act as the nodal department for executing various talent competitions to be held at three levels — block level, urban local body and state.

Rural roads

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik directed the rural development department to set a target of constructing 5,000km of road every year to connect villages. The state government has submitted a project report of Rs 2,112 crore for 4227km of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2013-14.

Shah panel

Bhubaneswar: The tenure of Justice M.B. Shah Commission, which is enquiring into illegal iron ore and manganese ore mining in seven states, including Odisha, has been extended by three months. The panel has been allowed time until October to submit its final report.

Modi visit

Bhubaneswar: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, is scheduled to visit Puri on July 16 to pay obeisance to Lord Jagannath during the nine-day rath yatra. He will meet Puri King Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb. Modi, who has taken over as chief of BJP election campaign committee, will meet party members in Bhubaneswar as well.

Youth injured

Rourkela:A 25-year-old was seriously injured in a firing incident at Nirmal Market near Power House Road. Two alleged assailants were apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police. Mohit Kayal, who manages his father’s iron business, suffered a bullet injury in his right thigh.

Fake obituary

Balasore: A 42-year-old woman lodged a police complaint after a vernacular daily carried her obituary stating it was her second death anniversary with nicknames of her family members mentioned in it. The woman, who has a five-year-old daughter, has been separated from her husband since 2009.

Probe

Bhubaneswar: National Commission for Women (NCW) team will visit Odisha on July 17 to probe into the rape and murder of a 12-year-old visually challenged girl on the Puri-Konark marine drive. CW chairperson Mamta Sharma lashed out at the Naveen Patnaik government calling it insensitive towards women in Odisha.
