Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday wrote to the Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee urging him to reconsider of Reserve Bank of India’s decision to hike the interest rate on the Nabard’s Rural Infrastructure Development Funds (RIDF) loan from 6.5 per cent to 8 per cent. I would persuade the RBI and Nabard to review the issue urgently and ensure that the revised rate of interest of 8 per cent is not made applicable to the RIDF loans sanctioned prior to April 1, 2012,” Naveen said. Bhubaneswar: The police have attended 47,218 phone calls in March with an average 1,523 calls per day. During this period, the police control room (PCR) has acted very effectively after getting these calls. As many as 340 injured persons have been shifted to hospitals after getting these calls and their lives have been saved. Around 470 criminals could be caught by PCR vans which acted according to the instruction from the control room. Besides, the pcr saved many distressed people roaming around the city. A review meeting was held in the commissionerate office on Tuesday, which revealed the figure. Balasore:A local court in Balasore on Tuesday sentenced one Debashis Jena to seven years in prison. A fine of Rs 5,000 has been slapped on him, defaulting which the jail term would increase for three more months. Jena, a resident of Basta area found guilty in a case of kidnapping and rape. Three others were also found guilty in the abduction case and were sent to three years in prison. n another case, a local court sentenced Nityanand Das to six months in prison. Das was found guilty in a cheque bounce case. he court also directed him to pay the principal amount of Rs 50,000 to the victim. The case was lodged in 2003. Bhubaneswar: The special judge, vigilance, Jeypore found Kalahandi Child Development Program Officer (CDPO) Ritarani Jena guilty on charges of taking bribe of Rs 3,500 while she was CDPO of Padia block in Malkangiri in 2008. he court sentenced her to six months rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000. She would have to undergo 15 more days of imprisonment if she defaults on payment of the fine. Jena had taken a bribe from an anganwadi worker Arati Podami to give her appointment. Bhubaneswar: Special judge, vigilance, Balasore, found a policeman guilty of accepting a Rs 200 bribe. The assistant sub-inspector of police, Laxman Swain who is presently stationed at Nayagarh Sadar police station, was posted to Durgadevi police out post in Balasore when he was trapped by vigilance officials . He has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 18,000 has been slapped on, in default of which he would have to undergo three more months of imprisonment.
