Cuttack: Three persons were arrested on Friday on charges of impersonating regular correspondence students in the matriculation exams in Puri. The trio were caught from Basudev High School at Bagham-undai in Puri. A total of 634 students, including 458 regular and 176 ex-regulars, were also booked for malpractice at exam centres across the state. Balasore: Transporters, up in arms against the restrictions imposed by the district administration on plying of heavy vehicles within the town limits, on Friday demonstrated outside the district collector’s office. They demanded immediate revocation of the order restricting the heavy vehicles only between 10pm and 6am in the town area. Bhubaneswar: Medical Council of India (MCI) has given permanent recognition to Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (Kims), a constituent of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, following an inspection in the last week of February. Kims authorities said they received a notification in this regard on Friday. The private medical college had come under MCI’s scanner after six government doctors were found moonlighting at Kims. Bhubaneswar: A group of parents gathered outside the DAV Public School, Pokhariput, and demanded a discussion with the principal regarding a notice issued to students. The notice stated that students had to clear their dues, failing which their promotion to the next class would be withheld. Parents claimed the school officials had been threatening the students during exam season to pay fees at revised rates with retrospective effect from June 2012 though the fee hike issue was sub-judice. Bhubaneswar: Utkal University students, who had been attacked on March 4 in their hostel rooms, staged a silent protest outside the varsity gate on Friday. They demanded immediate action against the accused involved in the attack that left two students injured. Saheed Nagar police have registered a case and are inquiring into the matter. Bhubaneswar: Odissi dancer Jyoti Shrivastava will be honoured with the prestigious Mahari Award at the 19th Guru Pankaj Utsav at Rabindra Mandap here from March 17 to 19. The New Delhi-based dancer will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a memento. Cuttack: One person died and four were injured in a bombing on Friday at Jamudihatimada village in Banki. The incident is said to be the outcome of an ongoing political rivalry between two families. However, police said it was related to an illicit love affair. The deceased was identified as Sachi Parida, 45, who suffered injuries on his chest and leg.
