Bhubaneswar: The Nikhila Utkal Sankirtan Mahasangha on Friday expressed its grief over the continuous indifference of the state government towards the tradition of Sankirtan culture, their issues and demands, at a news conference held here. he Mahasangh, which represents over nearly 1 lakh Sankirtan artists throughout the state as its members, has decided to hold a mass rally and protest meeting at Bhubaneswar on February 12 in order to press for their demands. More than 5,000 members are expected to participate in the rally.

Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission has sought report from health department of Odisha over illegal private nursing homes and clinical establishments running in the state. The commission has directed the principal secretary of health to file an action taken report report in the matter within six weeks. The petitioner alleged that about 1,200 private nursing homes and clinical establishments are running illegally in the state due to gross apathy and indifference of the health department and the district administration. Out of nearly 1,500 private nursing homes and other clinical establishments operating in the state, as many as 1,200 have been running without any valid registration.

Cricket league

Cuttack: Barabati stadium is set to host the Celebrity Cricket League tournament on Saturday. The first match would be played between Bengal Tigers and Mumbai Heroes and the second match between Bhojpuri Dabbangs and Telugu Warriors would be held on the same day.

Acharya

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday presented the vote-on-accounts of Rs 34,829 crore for the first four months of the financial year.Finance minister Prasanna Acharya said: “In the vote on account emphasis is given on continuing schemes on agriculture, irrigation, infrastructure development, poverty eradication, health, education, rural development, social security and social welfare.”

Conference

Bhubaneswar: The National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Olatpur, and the Odisha branch of All India Occupational Therapists’ Association started its 51st annual conference of the association here on Friday. The theme of the conference is “living life to the fullest”.

Awards

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy presented awards to artistes for 2012 and 2013 at Rabindra Mandap on Friday to famous puppeteer Maguni charan Kuanr. Odishi musician Damodar Hota won the Kabi Samrat Upendrabhanja Samman for 2012 and 13 respectively. Thirty aristes were also awarded in other performing arts.

Fake I-card

Berhampur: Police have arrested 24-year-old V. Murti Rao from Purunabandha village within Ganjam police station limits, who was producing fake voter I-cards in his house to get mobile sim cards in lots.
