‘Meagre’ grant

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has released funds worth Rs 250 crore against state government's demand for Rs 1,000 crore in advance from the National Disaster Response Fund to meet the situation arising out of two consecutive calamities in the state in October. Criticising the Centre, revenue and disaster management minister Surjya Narayan Patro termed it as “step-motherly” treatment.

Three in net

Bhubaneswar: Police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of senior Congress leader Makara Gouda, 62, who was the chairman of Seragada block in Ganjam. He was attacked on November 22 while returning to his native village Sunantara Seragada-Hinjili and succumbed to injuries at Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Medical College and Hospital three days later. The police said the accused had personal enmity with him and killed him with sharp weapons, which was later recovered from under water 25km away from the spot.

Cold wave
