Model question

Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education will upload Plus Two model question papers on its website (http://as.ori.nic.in/chseorissa/) by Wednesday to familiarise students with the new question pattern.

Maoist flees

Bhubaneswar: : A Maoist arrested from Khiloli in Nabarangpur district escaped from police custody in Raighar on Tuesday. Security has also been stepped up in the Maoist infested Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts as the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army Week is under way. Combing operations have been intensified.

Waiver plea

Bhubaneswar: Berhampur University authorities urged the state government to extend help to the cyclone-affected students by way of waiving their examination fees. They have also informed governor and chancellor of state universities S.C. Jamir and have also discussed with higher education secretary about the issue.

‘Cheat’ probe

Bhubaneswar: Crime branch has sought the permission of the state finance department to confiscate properties of deposit collection company, Shastra enterprises, which is alleged to have cheated investors of Rs 20 crore. Hundreds of depositors took out a rally in the city on Tuesday, demanding immediate action against the company.

Death toll

Berhampur: The death toll at Pandara Sahi due to suspected food poison went up to five after the 21-year-old daughter of Bhuban Padhi, 65, who died on Monday evening, died at MKCG hospital on Tuesday. Padhi and his three sons had earlier succumbed to suspected food poisoning on Monday.

Dalit raped

Kendrapara: Police arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly raping a 25-year-old Dalit woman in Patalipanka village in the Marshaghai police limits. The woman said Jayaram Mallick, 35, had trespassed into her house on Monday night and raped her after tying her up.

Gang busted

Bhubaneswar: Police busted a gang of bike thieves and recovered 12 motorcycles from them. The accused were identified as Susant Behera, 21, Kalia Sahu, 18, and Ranjan Pradhan, 18.

Rice subsidy

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced to provide 10-kg of rice at a subsidised rate of Re 1 per kg to the persons with at least 60 per cent disabilities. On the occasion of the World Disabilities Day, Naveen also unveiled a website and introduced a toll-free number 1800-3456737.

Murder

Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday arrested Bankanidhi Nayak, 50, for allegedly killing his wife Manju Nayak, 48, in Paikarapur on the city outskirts within Chandaka police limits. The accused allegedly strangulated the woman on Monday night.
