Drug seized

Balasore: The excise department on Tuesday seized around 25gm of brown sugar from Rabi Sena, 23, of Barabati village within the limits of Town police station here. The accused was intercepted while he was carrying the contraband worth Rs 2.5 lakh in a two-wheeler. He was taken into custody.

Vigilance net

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance wing in Sambalpur registered a case against Rajani Prasad Sahu, Wesco storekeeper in Sundergarh, for demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 2,323 from Pramod Kumar Sahu to process a new electric connection. A trap was laid and Sahu was caught red handed taking the bribe.

One killed

Balangir: A 38-year-old man, who was running a garage, was found murdered near his home on Sambalpur Road here on Tuesday morning. Local residents found his body and reported the incident to the police. The deceased, Lakhpati Singh, 38, was missing since Monday night. His body bore injury marks.

Haat facelift

Bhubaneswar: The urban haat at Konark will soon become more tourist-friendly. This was decided at a meeting called by chief secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik on Monday. Parking places and food courts will be built at the haat. It will also have fountains and eateries.
