The campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Rourkela is currently abuzz with budding scientists talking about chemicals and experiments with the DST-Inspire Internship Science Camp that has started on December 17. Around 450 students of various schools of Rourkela are attending the programme, organised by the department of science and technology. Inspire, or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research, is a unique initiative of the Centre to motivate youths to pursue a career in basic sciences because of the popular perception that opportunities in the field were limited. However, Inspire has assumed the form of a movement in the country after it was launched in 2007, said an official, adding that over 70,000 students in various states had been covered under this internship programme through 200-odd camps. This camp includes technical sessions in physics, chemical, biological, biotechnological, earth and environmental sciences apart from featuring scientific, visual displays and lab activities by students on various subjects. Earlier, on December 14, NIT-Rourkela had invited industrialists, businessmen and entrepreneurs for a special programme in which institute director Sunil Kumar Sarangi talked about the facilities available on campus for local industries to conduct their research work and upgrade products.
