Bhubaneswar: To facilitate better vehicular movement during the rath yatra in Puri, the railways have decided to open a new temporary level-crossing gate at Malatipatapur-end of Puri railway station. It will be operational for a period of 15 days from June 19 to July 3. Kendrapara: Two persons were burnt alive in a major fire mishap at Routsahi village under Balia Gram panchayat on Thursday. The deceased persons have been identified as Sanjay Rout, 50, and Dibakar Mallah, 60. As many as 27 mud-walled thatched houses were reduced to debris while about a dozen domesticated animals also lost their lives in the fire. Balasore: Two persons were killed and one injured in an accident on NH-5 near Bidu in the Soro police station area on Thursday. A truck hit the passenger vehicle in which the trio were travelling from the rear side. The deceased have been identified as Ramesh Padhi, 45, and Dibyasundar Satpathy, 12, both from Khaira area. Kendrapara: Bhitarkanika National Park authorities have arrested a man from Bengal on charge of smuggling out forest produces from the protected mangrove near Mahakalpada. Over four quintal of seeds of mangrove species was seized from the possession of the arrested man, identified as Seikh Ali Mohammad, 52. Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday registered a case against a fisheries officer in Ganjam district for demanding an illegal gratification from a person to prepare a bill for payment to the labourers engaged in execution of a farm pond. The official, Epili Udayanath, had demanded Rs 10,000 from Tukuna Pradhan of Badaborsig village. Udayanath has been arrested.
