Bhubaneswar: In a minor bureaucratic rejig on Wednesday, Govind Charan Sethi was appointed as the collector of Kalahandi and Muralidhar Barik as the Nayagarh collector. Pradip Rath was posted in Sambalpur as collector and Bishnupasad Sahu in Jharsuguda. Bhubaneswar: Rourkela Government Railway Police arrested five persons in connection with a theft on Wednesday. The accused were preparing to steal some trucks from the Rourkela station siding. Three among the accused already had several cases pending against them in various police stations, said the police. Bhubaneswar: A 60-year-old man was beaten to death by his son at Buguda in Berhampur on Wednesday. Police, who arrested the deceased’s son, Tapomaya, 26, said he was mentally unstable. The deceased, Trilochan Panda, was a shopkeeper. Cuttack: Government Railway Police, Cuttack, on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly snatching gold chain from passengers. The accused has been identified as Ramchandra Behera, 22. The cops recovered six gold chains weighing about 70 grams in total, the market price of which is estimated to be about Rs 3 lakh. Three others were also held in this connection. Bhubaneswar: Lanjigarh residents took out a rally on Wednesday demanding immediate allocation of bauxite to the Vedanta Aluminium Limited’s refinery. The company recently sent a notice to the government seeking temporary closure of its Lanjigarh refinery from December 5. Hundreds of local employees, people who were affected by the project and other displaced persons staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the office of district collector of Kalahandi and handed over a memorandum to senior government officials. Bhubaneswar: Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh on Wednesday said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has exposed Odisha government’s negligence towards the agriculture sector. He alleged that apathy of the state government has affected the sector. Earlier, the CAG report had revealed that the total agricultural land in the state had declined to 60.44 lakh hectare from 61.36 lakh hectare during the past four years. Bhubaneswar: Students of Biju Pattnaik University of Technology have threatened to stage a demonstration on NH- 5 to revolt against shifting of its camp office from Bhubaneswar. They have threatened to forcibly stop students of various engineering college from attending their classes. The students have been opposing the proposed move of the authorities to shift the camp office from the capital to Rourkela.
