Hunger strike in jail

Berhampur: Fifty-three undertrial prisoners at Berhampur Circle Jail here are on a hunger strike since Wednesday. They are accusing the police of implicating them in false cases. “They have not touched food since since November 21,” said Susant Kumar Rout, the jailor.

Protest lifted

Bhubaneswar: The cease work agitation by teachers and employees of 662 block grant colleges was called off on Friday evening. “After the state government constituted a committee to look into our demands, we decided to call off our strike,” said president of the All-Odisha non-government lecturers and employees association, Golak Nayak.

Arrest

Balasore: Former Mayurbhanj MP and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Sudam Marandi was arrested on Friday by Baripada police along with his supporters for indulging in violence.

Accident

Sambalpur: At least 10 policemen were injured when a police van overturned at Chikini ghat of Deogarh district. The mishap happened after the driver lost control following a brake failure. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Deogarh.

Beach fest

Bhubaneswar: The 18th edition of the International Puri Beach Festival began at the Puri beach on Friday with performances by folk artistes and classical dancers of Odisha. Artistes from Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and many other states and from European countries and Japan are taking part in the fest.
