Balasore: The next inter-state meeting on the wildlife will be held in Bengal in December. This was decided after the first meeting held in Tata Nagar concluded on Wednesday. Forest officials of Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh attended the meeting.

Lightning

Kendrapara: Two farmers while carrying out paddy transplantation died on Wednesday as lightning struck them in two separate incidents in the district. The deceased have been identified as Shankarshan Rout, 35, of Ghadiamala village and Parshuram Das, 36, of Tannar village.

Students ill

Berhampur: More than 60 students of Adapada Nodal Upper Primary School and the Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district were taken ill after they consumed the soyabean curry and dal mixed with besan as a part of their mid-day-meal on Wednesday.

Vigilance net

Kendrapara: The vigilance wing of state police on Thursday arrested the medical officer of Rajnagar Community Health Centre while accepting bribe from a patient.Quoting vigilance sources, the accused medical officer Bhakti Deepak Pattnaik had demanded Rs 600 from Seikh Ayubuddin, a native of Kankanagar village for issuing a medical admission certificate.

Youths nabbed

Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested two youths and seized one pistol from them. Both the youths identified as Ranjit Swain, 28, and Lipu Panda, 27, were nabbed during a road blocking near Uttara Square.

Ex-teacher arrested

aradip: Police arrested three persons, including a retired headmaster of a government-run school, after illicit liquor was seized from them by a special squad of the excise department in the Balikuda police station jurisdiction of Jagatsinghpur district.he retired headmaster, Gunanidhi Jena, 63, was nabbed following seizure of illicit IMFL from his house at Oshakana village.

Racket

ourkela: Police on Thursday busted a thieves’ racket and recovered jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees. The police arrested two members of the gang identified as Rajesh Sahu, and Sailesh Kumar Saw. Two other members of the racket are absconding.
