Bhubaneswar: The two-day vacancy round of medical counselling in OJEE - 2013 for admission into MBBS and BDS courses in both government and private medical and dental colleges in the state began on Friday. Seats will be filled up for about 100 vacancies arising out of non reporting of OJEE - 2013 candidates in the first round of counselling and transfer of all-India quota seats in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test UG - 2013 to state quota. Bhubaneswar: In its report to the National Human Rights Commission, the district collector of Cuttack has alleged faults in the treatment of an Italian who died at SCB Medical College and Hospital on December 14. In the report, the officer has highlighted that lack of institutional mechanism was responsible for the death of the patient. He said that the isolated bed in the central ICU was not operational and there was no attendant to look after the patient. Bhubaneswar: Forest officials have arrested a person for his alleged involvement in timber smuggling. The accused has been identified as Devendra Bastia of Govindpur. Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, who was served a notice for alleged anti-party activities, organised Sankalap rally in Nayagarh. However, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Jaydev Jena could not attend the rally because of his “other engagements”. The party can come to power if steps are taken to strengthen the party at the booth level, Patnaik said, clarifying he was not indulging in anti-party activities. Bhubaneswar: Police rescued three schoolgirls from the city railway station following a complaint from their parents that they had gone missing after school hours. Police said that trio, all Class VII students, wanted to flee the city due to pressure from parents to perform better in academics. Bhubaneswar: Six superintendents of the boys’ hostel of Utkal University withdrew their resignation after the vice-chancellor assured them of various perks including free telephone bills for them. They had resigned alleging misbehaviour by hostel inmates.
