Milk price hike

Cuttack: Milk Owners’ Association on Friday decided to increase the price of milk products with effect from March 1 following the price rise of milk per litre by Rs 2.While the cottage cheese (chenna) per kg will be hiked by Rs 10, the price of paneer and khua per kg will be increases by Rs 20. Henceforth, the cottage cheese will be sold art Rs 125 per kg and paneer and khua will be sold at Rs 160 per kg.

College row

Baripada: The BJP has called for a Mayurbhanj bandh on February 24 following the Centre’s refusal to sanction a medical college to Mayurbhanj district. On the other hand, the MLAs of Mayurbhanj district led by the government chief whip Sanjay Dasburma on Friday met in Bhubaneswar and accused the Centre of neglecting the cause of Odisha. The MLAs demanded that the 200 bed hospital at Baripada to be promoted to a medical college.

AIIMS

Bhubaneswar: All-India Institute of Medical Sciences will be dedicated to public on February 26. Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will dedicate the hospital to the public, which is currently functioning with 150 beds. Second batch of students are at present pursuing their studies for medical degree.

Classical tag

Bhubaneswar: Union minister for chemical and fertilisers, Srikant Jena on Friday hailed the UPA government’s decision to accord classical status to Odia language. Jena said the Centre would provide special funds to the development of Odia language. Odia is now the sixth language to get the nod of classical status.

Bail granted

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Friday granted conditional bail to Hi-Tech Group chairman Tirupati Panigrahi and two other directors of the company. The apex court granted the bail after Panigrahi deposited Rs 10 crore in the registry. The court has also asked Panigrahi to deposit another Rs 53.5 crore in next three months. The crime branch in December, 2012, had arrested Panigrahi and his directors, Tirupati Choudhury and Madhusudan Panigrahi, on charges of duping hundreds of land buyers of crores of rupees by floating dubious land and housing schemes in the city and on its outskirts.

Poaching probe

ambalpur: A seven-member team of the crime branch on Friday started investigation into elephant poaching incidents in the district. Three elephants were found dead with bullet injuries in Bamra and Sambalpur forest divisions last months. Tusks of all the three elephants were missing giving an impression that the elephants were poached.

Big screen

uri: Bring Your Own Film Festival better known as BYOFF commenced at the beach near Chakra Tirtha Road, here on Friday evening. Giving independent filmmakers an attractive platform to showcase their creations, the 11th edition of the five-day festival screens anything from a 60 second documentary to two hour feature film. Around 5,000 filmmakers have taken part in the festival and about 200 films are expected to be screened at this edition.

Lit fest

hubaneswar: On the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day, Sikhasandhan, a private organisation organised a Tribal Literature festival. Many storytellers, artists, singers, musician and dancers from across the country took part in the event to create a platform for encouraging tribal communities.

Birds

hubaneswar: The forest officials of Mayurbhanj district on Friday started an investigation into killing of 53 were birds of various species. The birds were found dead in a village under Kaptipada forest range on Thursday.
