New judge
Bhubaneswar: Allahabad High Court judge Justice Vinod Prasad will shortly join as judge of Orissa High Court. Justice Prasad is likely to join the state high court on July 2. With his joining, the total number of judges in Orissa High Court will be 18.
Surveillance
Bhubaneswar: CCTV-based surveillance for Bhubaneswar started on Friday with installation of equipment at the control room situated in the office of the police commissioner. In the first phase, 113 cameras will be installed at 28 locations of the city. Odisha State Police Housing & Welfare Corporation Limited is implementing the project at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore. Three cameras would be installed in each police control room van.
Leader dies
Bhubaneswar: Eminent CPI leader Ishwar Nayak passed away at his home at Laida village in Sambalpur. He was 70 and is survived his wife and two sons. Nayak had been unwell ever since he fell down in his bathroom some months ago.
Gang busted
Bhubaneswar: Police arrested three members of a dacoit gang while they were planning to commit a robbery within the limits of Capital police station here on Thursday night.
Hospital tension
Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at a private hospital on Lewis Road following the death of a youth. The relatives of Raju Behera alleged that Raju died due to medical negligence by the hospital authorities. Raju, who had been suffering from asthma, was admitted at the hospital on June 17 and died on Friday evening. The agitators llegedly manhandled a few employees of the ospital.
Panel visit
Bhubaneswar: A four-member team of State Commission for Women (SCW) on Friday made a visit to the Red Cross Bhavan after receiving a complaint from three female employees working in Odisha branch of Indian Red Cross alleging harassment by secretary of the organisation Mangala Prsad Mohanty.
