Kangaroo court

Balasore: A youth was beaten up at Nachinda village in Kamarda police station limits on Thursday after a kangaroo court trial. The complainant, Satyanarayan De of Kharajichaka, complained that some villagers caught him and tied him up with a rope for no apparent fault of him when he went to Nachinda on Thursday night to buy some chicken. The husband of the village sarpanch was one of the members of the kangaroo court.

Pipe snapped

Malkangiri: Maoists allegedly snapped a pipeline of Essar Steel carrying iron dust near Palankarai in Ralegada panchayat in the district on Thursday. The pipeline starts from Kirandala in Chhattisgarh and ends at Vishakhapatnam.

Diarrhoea

Rayagada: At least four persons have died of diarrhoea in Khurigaon  gram panchayat of Rayagada district in the last two days.

Girl drowns 

Koraput: Mamta Bairagi, a Class-IV student of Dalaiguda Ashram School in Koraput district drowned in a canal near the school on Friday. According to a source, the nine-year-old girl was taking a bath in the canal when her leg slipped and she fell down. She was rescued and taken to the Sunabeda Urban Hospital immediately, but the doctors declared her brought dead.

Tribal girl

Cuttack: A five-year-old tribal girl Nisha Garami, daughter of Baasi Garami was found murdered in a pond at the backside of her house. The incident occurred in MV-23 village of Malkangiri. Suspecting the involvement of two neighbours behind the murder, the villagers detained them but they were rescued by police. 

One dead

Malkangiri: A labourer was killed in an accident at a paper manufacturing factory Cosboard Industries Limited 
located in Jagatpur Industrial Estate in Cuttack on Friday.
