Farmer suicide

Dhenkanal: A farmer committed suicide over alleged loan burden in Beltikiri village under Sadar block of Dhenkanal district on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Aswin Sahoo, was found hanging in the backyard of his house. According to sources, Aswin had planted four acres of paddy crop by taking a loan. He took the extreme step after the crops were damaged, said his family members.

Deficit rain

Bhubaneswar: Deficit rainfall in the months of June, July and August in several districts has affected agricultural activities leaving the farmers worried. Ten districts of the state have received deficit rainfall between 19 per cent and 39 per cent during the period, said the special relief commissioner’s office.

Baby rescued

Bhadrak: A one-year-old boy sold by his parents for Rs 45,000 was rescued by Bhadrak Town Police and Childline officials on Tuesday and handed over to Child Welfare Committee.

Complaint

Cuttack: A police complaint has been filed against a lady doctor of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for allegedly beating kin of a patient on Tuesday. A woman identified as Aarti Sahu, resident of Ramanagar village in Kendrapara district,  lodged the FIR against the doctor.

Farmer income

Bhubaneswar: The per capita income of a farmer in the state was pegged at Rs 59,712, said agriculture minister Damodar Rout. He was replying to a question by BJP’s Rourkela MLA Dillp Ray in the Assembly. National Sample Survey Organisation conducted the survey and the figure was based on the situation assessment.

Water supply

Bhubaneswar: The state government decided on Wednesday to supply each gram panchayat with potable water through pipe connection by 2018. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik presided over a review meeting in this regard at the secretariat where decisions were taken especially for rural development.
