Cyclone alert

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi on Wednesday said the Early Warning Emission System for cyclones at 212 places would be started by July. He said the towers will be installed at 212 places in six coastal districts of the state and the system will not only blow sirens, but also send text or voice messages to people of that area in case of a cyclone-like-situation. 

Three dead

Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed after a private bus travelling towards Paradip from Astaranga toppled into a canal near Jiunti Chhak near Kakatpur in Puri district on Wednesday morning. Forty other passengers were also injured in the accident. Passengers said the incident occurred around 6.15am after the driver lost control of the speeding bus. The injured passengers were admitted to Kakatpur Hospital for preliminary treatment. Later, 20 of them were shifted to various hospitals in Bhubaneswar as their condition worsened.

Accused held

Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested the accused in the murder of a street vendor at Palasuni within Mancheswar police limits from Bengal. The police said the accused, Md Rahimtulla, was being brought to the state from Bengal. The body of Md Bala, 25, a native of Bengal, was found in a room with his throat slit on Sunday. The police said the victim had come to the state capital five days ago. However, they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime.

Injured 

Bhubaneswar: Notorious criminal Pintu Sahu alias Sagar was injured in an encounter with police near Lanjipalli in Berhampur. Police said Sagar sustained a bullet injury on his right thigh. They said Sagar was wanted by Ganjam police for his alleged involvement in several cases of murder, attempt to murder, bombing, extortion and illegal possession of firearms.
