Caught in act

Sambalpur: A doctor of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, was caught red-handed while engaging in private practice at his house during duty hours by the institute’s director Aswini Kumar Pujahari. According to sources, Pujahari had found associate professor Goutam Kumar Satpathy absent from the department of orthopedic surgery during duty hours. Following a tip-off that he was treating patients at his home, the director went there personally and caught him.

Axe on cop

Bhubaneswar: The director-general of police K.B. Singh on Saturday suspended Boudh police station inspector in-charge Amulya Kumar Dhar for trying to touch the idol of goddess Subhadra during niladri bije in Puri.  He was suspended on the basis of a report of the Puri superintendent of police. Dhar was earlier inspector in-charge of Sea beach police station in Puri.

Rama Devi VC

Bhubaneswar: Padmaja Mishra has been appointed as the first vice-chancellor of Rama Devi Women's University, official sources said on Saturday. Mishra would hold the position for the next three years. 

Cong infighting

Bhubaneswar: Infighting in the state Congress intensified on Saturday after a group of MLAs held a closed-door meeting at the house of Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra, ostensibly to discuss the issue of change in the Pradesh Congress Committee leadership.
