Jaundice

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to take immediate steps to prevent occurrence of jaundice in the city. The civic body has decided to cover the open wells across the city, put up 100 water kiosks at the jaundice-prone slums, distribute leaflets among the citizens to spread awareness about the disease. The officials held a meeting on Tuesday and decided to take the steps.

Two dead

Cuttack: Two persons were killed while four others suffered injuries in a clash between two villages within the Mahanga police jurisdiction in Cuttack on Tuesday. According to sources, two persons succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Earlier, an argument ensued between villagers from Pasulunda and Gangapura over the Dol yatra celebrations.

Rabi Ray

Bhubaneswar: The Assembly on Tuesday condoled the death of former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray, who passed away in Cuttack last week. The Speaker of the Assembly Niranjan  Pujari, parliamentary affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh, leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra and BJP legislature party leader KV Singh Deo said with Ray's death Odisha and the nation lost a veteran socialist leader and parliamentarian. The House observed silence in honour of the departed leader. 

Medical bill 

Bhubaneswar: Former legislator from Telkoi in Keonjhar district Chandrasen Naik was allegedly detained by authorities of a private hospital in Bhubnaeswar on Tuesday for not clearing his medical bill. Sources said Naik underwent a heart surgery at the hospital and had an arrear of Rs 2 lakh during his treatment. Police said that Naik was later discharged from the hospital after he signed an undertaking to pay the remaining bill from Chief Ministers Relief fund. The cops said that no formal complaint has been lodged in this regard.

Woman dead 

Jeypore: A 79-year-old woman was charred to death on Tuesday after fire engulfed her house in Koraput. The deceased has been identified as Subashini Saha. According to sources, the incident occurred about 7 am when the woman was busy in conducting her daily rituals inside the house. The reason of the fire was yet to be ascertained. 

Minor killed 

Bhubaneswar: A minor girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Bhaluchanchara village in Narla block in Kalahandi on Tuesday. It is said that the girl was killed after being raped. According to sources, the incident took place when the girl was alone at home on Monday. The victim’s father alleged that she was regularly harassed by a youth of their village. In another incident, the body of a girl was found in Nuagaon village. The deceased girl was identified as a Plus II student.
