Collector appeal
Kandhamal: The collector of Kandhamal Brunda D appealed to all government employees here on Tuesday to
donate a day’s salary for the treatment of the conjoined twins of the district. The twins, renamed as Jaga and Balia by AIIMS authorities, will be operated once their health condition improves. The AIIMS has formed a 30-member team for pre-surgery assessment of the twins. The doctors will reportedly conduct surgery in three phases to separate the twins.

Bhubaneswar: SpiceJet is going to start its flight operations to Sharjah and New Delhi shortly from Biju Patnaik International Airport here. The new international and domestic flight operations by SpiceJet has been welcomed by the air travellers as they were forced to either travel to Mumbai or Delhi to connect to international gateways.

Bhubaneswar: The state government is ready to install a first-of-its-kind Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS) in six different coastal districts in three phases starting this month. Residents living on the fringe of the 480 km long coastline in Odisha will now be better prepared for any natural disaster like tsunami, cyclone and earthquake with the introduction of the system.

Sambalpur: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday wrote to Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh for extension of cut-off dates of registration of farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna till August 16. He wrote that Odisha had made elaborate plans for covering 25 lakh farmers and 20 lakh hectares of area under the programme.
Historian
Balangir: Historian and senior epigraphist Sadanand Agrawal passed away here on Tuesday. He was 65. Agrawal was taken ill and shifted from his residence at Menda to Balangir district headquarters hospital where he died around 4am.
