Lancers in final

Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Lancers on Saturday beat the Uttar Pradesh to enter the final of the Hockey India League for the second consecutive season. The Lancers beat the Wizards 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the scores were level at 4-4 at the end of regulation time at the Chandigarh Hockey Stadium. The Lancers will take on Dabang Mumbai in the final, which will be played  on Sunday at the same venue.  

Two drown

Angul: Two students drowned in the Brahmani river at Talcher in Angul on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Saswat Pradhan and Divyanshu Sekhar Sethy, both residents of Anant Vihar Colony in Talcher. According to sources, the Plus II students of MCL Jagannath DAV School, drowned in the river while taking a bath at Paschimeswar Ghat. 

Man killed

Sambalpur: A man was hacked to death during Mahashivratri celebrations on Friday within Khadiapalli Sadar police station limits in Sambalpur. According to sources, a quarrel had ensued between two men, following which the victim was attacked with a sharp weapon. The deceased, identified as Agyaan Prakash Nayak of Pradhanpalli village, died on the spot.

Woman raped

Rourkela: A woman was allegedly raped at knifepoint by a political leader in  Sundargarh. Police have started their probe into the alleged incident, acting on the complaint filed by the victim at Lahunipada police station. According to the complaint, the accused is an activist of the BJP and had promised the victim's husband help in the panchayat polls.

New courses

Bhubaneswar: Utkal University will have three new courses. The university plans to introduce courses on human rights, environmental science and yoga from the upcoming academic session. The postgraduate council of the university has given the nod to open the courses on Friday.

Suicide bid

Bhubaneswar: A woman attempted suicide by self-immolation after she was not allowed to take part in Mahashivratri rituals on Friday allegedly because of her lower caste. This resulted in resentment among residents in Balasore district.
