Jajpur: Balichandrapur police on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly sending pornographic video clips on the mobile phone of a woman.

The accused, Alok Ranjan Parida, is a native of Padmanavpur village. The police have also seized his mobile phone which was used in the crime.

The woman mentioned in the police complaint that she was distantly related to Parida. "As the accused was known to me, he used to send me messages on WhatsApp. But, he sent a obscene photo on my WhatsApp on the first week of June this year. When I received the first obscene picture, I warned him not to send me such obscene picture again. But undeterred, he started sending me obscene video clips on my WhatsApp and also expressed his interest to develop a romantic relationship with me," said the woman in her police complaint.

"When I received the obscene video clips on my mobile phone for the second time, I informed his parents about the incident and requested them to ask their son to stop committing such nuisance," said the woman.

When Parida sent pornographic video clips on the mobile phone of the woman again on June 28, she narrated the entire incident to her family members, following which a complaint was filed with Balichandrapur police the next day.

"Based on the report, we registered a case and started investigation into the incident. We conducted raids on various locations and finally arrested him from Cuttack late on Saturday night," said inspector in charge of Balichandrapur police station Rakesh Chandra Tripathy.

Parida was arrested and charged with offences under sections 509 and 294 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 67 and 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act. He was forwarded to a local court on Sunday and was later remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
