Bhubaneswar: A few students of a leading government college here have been accused of intoxicating students to record their nude videos.
The alleged incident came to light on Tuesday after the father of a 17-year-old girl studying in the college accused one of her daughter's friends of spiking a chocolate and offering it to her. He also suspected some male students had shot a nude video of his daughter when she was intoxicated.
The father of the victim, who is a Plus Two second-year arts student, alleged that her daughter complained of uneasiness on reaching home.
"She returned home after attending her practical examination and complained of uneasiness. We took her to the nearest dispensary and the doctors advised us to give her food and ORS. After returning from the dispensary, she again complained of uneasiness and became unconscious," the father said. Later the girl was admitted at the ICU of Capital Hospital.
"My daughter told me that one of the girl students of the institute offered her a chocolate. She began to feel unwell after having it. I suspect a gang involving a few male students intoxicate girls to make their nude videos," he said.
However, he did not reveal how he came to know about the nude video incident.
The victim's father had lodged a complaint with the Kharvela Nagar police station. On the basis of the complaint, police have registered case under sections 34 and 328 of the Indian Penal Code.
"We have started an investigation after registering a case. Her classmates will be examined and we are also waiting for the victim to recover enough to record her statement. We will also examine the institute officials," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.
However, the police said they were yet to verify the allegations of the nude video.
"Based on the allegations of the girl's father, we are trying to identify and trace the female friend of the girl. During verification on the campus, a few students told us that a girl had offered her medicine after she complained of stomach pain," said a police official.
Doctors at the Capital Hospital said the girl's health was stable and likely to be discharged on Wednesday.
"We have started an internal inquiry after the victim's father levelled the allegations. We will fully cooperate with the police investigation," said a senior faculty member of the institute.
