Bhubaneswar, May 20: The municipal corporation has issued notices to some apartments and several individuals who have been throwing garbage in public places.
Several letters were issued in past two months in a bid to create a clean Bhubaneswar.
The officials of the corporation said following complaints from neighbours, the personnel working under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) cell visited the spots and found garbage lying in the open.
Then letters were issued to the persons or parties responsible for the acts. They were also asked to keep the areas clean or else they would have to face the penalty according to the rules.
A senior official of the corporation said last month they had received a complaint from Kailash Enclave in Old Town regarding domestic waste being dumped by the residents of the building complex in an open storage facility.
"The secretary of the enclave had been asked to take steps to dump the domestic waste generated in the enclave in a covered container, which can be later cleaned by garbage collectors," said the officer adding that the secretary would be fined if he failed to take action.
However, the officials said following the warning, the situation changed and garbage disposal was streamlined.
Besides, the SBA team visited several individual households who have been either letting their sewerage water spill on to the public road or have encroached the government land to construct their tanks.
"We visited the house of a retired state government employee in Baramunda who had built a sewerage tank on the government land and the water spilled onto the road. We even visited several other houses in different parts of the city following complaints lodged by neighbours. Today we are issuing notice to them," said an officer of the cell.
The team members said in the past two months, they had already issued more than 20 such letters to individuals, apartments and agencies. While the agencies complied with the instruction, the individuals still continue to ignore the order taking advantage of poor enforcement policy of the corporation.
Public relations officer of BMC Srimanta Mishra said when the corporation received such complaints, their team visited the spot and following verification, issued warning letters to them.
