Bhubaneswar: Classical music enthusiasts came together to host a night-long event to promote budding singers from the state.
Hosted at Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre here, the effort was to dedicate the entire evening and night up to daybreak to classical vocal and instrumental music.
The soiree began at 6pm on Sunday and concluded at 3am on Monday. The performances were mostly solo, vocal and instrumental and were set to the various hours of the day.
"The ragas were performed keeping in mind the hours of the day. Raag Patdeep was sung at dusk, Yaman in early evening, Bihag and Rageshwari late into the evening, Bageshwari and Desh at night, Malkauns and Darbari at midnight, Lalit and Lalit Pancham in early morning, and Bhairav and Bhairavi late into the morning," said artiste Kshiti Prakash Mohapatra, who is also a member of Aamad, that hosted the soiree.
"Not many get the scope to perform after evening in the city. Aamad has created that possibility here," he added.
"There are very few platforms that provide the scope of performing classical music ragas keeping in mind the hours of the day. Aamad is promoting the concept among the classical music listeners of the city," said Sangeeta Gosain, chief executive officer of Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre.
A musical question-and-answer session with Harmohan Khuntia was also hosted as part of the event.
Music lovers from across the city attended the event.
"The event helped me understand the classical ragas meant for various hours of the day," said Sushmita Jena, a young singer.
