New V-C for Sambalpur varsity

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 27: Bishnu Charan Barik was today appointed vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University.

The chancellor of all state universities and governor, Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, appointed Barik for a period of three years with effect from the date he assumes office or until further orders whichever is earlier, an official release said.

At present, Barik is serving Swami Ramananda Teerth Marathwada University at Nanded, Maharashtra, as professor of sociology. Barik, who hailed from Kendrapara, did his MA in sociology from Sambalpur University and completed his MPhil and PhD from South Gujarat University. Later, he worked at the Water and Land Resource Management Institute at Anand, before joining Swami Ramananda Teerth Marathwada University.

He is also the executive member of the All India Sociological Society.

“It is a privilege and a happy moment for me to join my alma mater, Sambalpur University, as vice-chancellor. The university has contributed a lot in shaping my career and I aspire to provide every student of the university with opportunities of growth and progress,” Barik told The Telegraph over phone from Pune.
