Bhubaneswar: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) here will switch to the updated version of Vahan, a software, from October 26 to provide online services to citizens.

The National Informatics Centre has developed the software.

Bhubaneswar II regional transport officer S.K. Behera said the updated Vahan 4 software would provide services such as transfer of ownership, registration certificate renewals, issuance of no-objection certificates, hypothecation, cancellation and endorsement, fitness certificates and tax payments.

"The migration of data from the existing software to the updated version will be done between October 23 and 25. Citizens are requested not to apply for vehicle registration related work on those three days. The new version will be introduced on October 26," said Behera.

Vahan 4 had been introduced on a pilot basis at the Cuttack RTO in June. The other RTOs that will introduce the updated version are Chandikhol, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Phulbani, Boudh, Deogarh and Kalahandi.

Transport officials said the software would cover all the RTOs in the state by the year end.

A transport official said the updated software would help check registrations of fake and stolen vehicles as vehicle data of the entire country would be maintained at a national data centre.

Behera said dealers and RTO staff members had received training about the new version of the software.

The government had made it mandatory to introduce online transactions at the RTOs across the state in September 2015.
