Bhubaneswar, July 22: The development authority will build a neighbourhood market on an unutilised land at BDA Colony in Chandasekharpur.
Earlier, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority had developed two such centralised markets at K-8 Kalinga Nagar and K-6 Subudhipur.
For the proposed BDA Colony market, the authority invited architects to design the project in its bid to use the unused patches of land in various parts of the city.
"We have invited proposals from architects to prepare a detailed project report for the shopping complex at Chandrasekharpur. We have mentioned the essential requirements, which should be kept in mind while developing the complex," said an authority official.
According to the initial plan, the authority will allot land to the developer, who will prepare the project report while keeping the essential requirements in mind.
The developer will then spend money to construct the complex and recover it in form of rent from vendors in the later stage.
The authority has earmarked 0.11 acres in the heart of BDA Colony. The complex will be a two-storey building. The shops in it will be about 2.4-metre wide and 3-metre long.
The layout plan will adhere to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation's norms since the structure will have a built-up area lesser than 1,500sqft. According to the newly introduced Planning and Building Standard Regulations, 2017, the corporation will approve the layout plans for low-risk building having a built-up area of 5,000sqft or less.
The proposed structure will also have water distribution lines, 24-hour water and power supply, storm water collection and rainwater harvesting systems. Among other major requirements, the proposed building will have integrated solid waste management system with sewerage collection tanks, internal underground drainage and garbage disposal system in a manner, so that it will not affect the nearby residential areas.
"It is a nice plan to use the under-utilised lands. The initiative will benefit the nearby residents. A good market is the need of a developed area," said BDA Colony resident Jagruti Das.
Another local resident, Vimal Mehta, said there was no proper market in the area. "The market here lies in an very unorganised manner. There is a need of a centralised facility like a neighbourhood market. I hope the administration will execute the job in time," said Mehta, a retired government employee.
