Cuttack, Jan. 25: Visitors will have to book tickets for the light-and-sound show at Netaji Birthplace Museum from January 29 onwards.

“Two 25-minute shows will be held every evening and the tickets will be priced at Rs 15,” deputy director of the state culture department B.P. Ray told The Telegraph today. The show is expected to become a major crowd-puller in Cuttack.

Though chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the light-and-sound show on January 23, the museum had only trial runs so far. Regular shows have not yet started for the public. At present, a visitor has to pay Re 1 as entry fee to the museum and watch the show.

Ray, who is also the secretary of the Netaji Birthplace Museum Trust said: “Ticketed light and sound programme received government approval yesterday. We expect to be ready with the tickets to start the shows from January 29.”

The two shows every evening (except for Mondays and public holidays) will be in Odia. “An open-air gallery to accommodate 100 viewers has been constructed as part of the project,” museum curator J.P. Das said.

“The 25-minute show on the life of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose is based on a script penned by Bijay Mishra. It focuses on the different phases in Netaji’s life. Sections include his early life, student and political life, his time in the INA, the provisional government of Azad Hind, Azad Hind Radio and National Bank of Azad Hind,” Das said.

The show will also throw light on the frame of Netaji’s mind and his failing health for most part of the 1920s through the letters written by him to his father, Janaki Nath Bose, while in prison.

“Since the museum is a major tourist attraction in Cuttack, steps ought to be taken to have a light-and-sound show in English or Hindi,” said Satyajit Roy, a resident of the Bidanasi. Museum officials said a proposal on these lines was in process.
