Bhubaneswar, Oct. 17: Tension gripped the Capital Hospital today over the death of a road-accident victim as the family members of the deceased complained of negligence by the doctors in her treatment.

The son of the deceased has lodged a complaint with capital police against the hospital staff.

The police said the accident victim was identified as 45-year-old Santilata Tripathy who hailed from Raghunath Nagar at Dumuduma under Khandagiri police station on the city outskirts. A motorcycle hit her today on Dumuduma Road, when she was going home.

Her son Hrushikesh Tripathy said she sustained severe injuries in her leg in the accident.

“We rushed her to hospital. The doctors here first gave her injections following which she went unconscious. As she did not get back to her sense, the doctors told us to shift her to SCB Medical College and Hospital,” said Hrushikesh, adding that they got suspicious when she did not get back to her sense.

“We then insisted the doctors to check her and then they declared her dead,” said the son.

He said his mother was well though her legs had some fractures, but the doctors gave her high dose of injection, which killed her.

The police personnel, deployed on the hospital premises, could not check the tension. Soon the inspector in-charge of Capital police station and the assistant commissioner of police of the area rushed to the hospital. They tried to convince the aggrieved family members.

Tripathy lodged a formal complaint with the inspector in-charge alleging against the doctor treating his mother for neglecting in her treatment. After the police received the complaint and assured them of proper action, the situation became normal.

Hospital authorities also convinced the family members. The chief medical officer of the hospital said she would inquire into the matter.

“Normally, the shocked family members create such problems. I will see if there is any fault on part of the doctor,” said the chief medical officer.

Later, the aggrieved family members took the body for post-mortem.

In another development, Khandagiri police said they had seized the motorcycle that belonged to a youth identified as Devdas Swain, son of a police constable. The police are looking for the youth.
