Bhubaneswar, March 29: Tension ran high at a private hospital in Saheed Nagar following the death of a woman after she gave birth to a child in the early hours.

Her relatives and their supporters staged a demonstration alleging medical negligence in her death.

Sucharita Nayak, 25, a resident of Laxmi Sagar, was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening and she gave birth to a baby boy after a Caesarean operation.

But an hour later, she complained of chest pain and was shifted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. However, Nayak died this morning, triggering tension. Her relatives alleged higher-than-normal dose of anaesthesia and medical negligence behind her death.

“Though we informed the hospital staff about her pain, they did not pay attention, which led to her death,” said her mother Rangalata Jena. Nayak’s husband works as an IT professional in Bangalore.

The deceased person’s relatives staged a protest for nearly two hours demanding arrest of doctors for medical negligence.

Despite several attempts to contact, the hospital officials, however, did not respond.
