Bhubaneswar, Feb. 10: Chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik today congratulated Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party for their landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly polls.

"I would like to congratulate Kejriwal and his party for the tremendous victory in the Delhi elections," said the chief minister.

The Delhi Assembly results came as a moral booster for the BJD, a regional outfit, which has been maintaining an equal distance from both the Congress and the BJP.

Senior BJD leader Ranendra Pratap Swain told the ongoing Assembly session that Delhi experienced an "earthquake" with the two major national parties, the BJP and the Congress suffering a massive debacle. "The Modi magic did not work. The BJP, which had brought US President Barrack Obama on the eve of Delhi polls to promote its agenda, was wiped out. Their "Hindu rashtra" slogan did not have any impact on the Delhi voters. The Congress was routed," said Swain.

"The Delhi results show that people want a political and economic alternative. Our party stands for a poverty-free India," said Swain.

However, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati ridiculed the BJD. "It is a shame that Naveen, who has been elected for the fourth consecutive term, does not know Odia. This is a question involving Odia swabhiman (self-pride)."

Alleging that the BJD government has looted natural resources of the state, the Congress leader said people of the state would reject Naveen as well as the BJP in the next Assembly polls. "People will vote for the Congress, which fought for the Independence and bring the party back to power," Bahinipati said.
