Bhubaneswar, Aug. 12: BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik today decided that he would directly visit villages and wards to communicate with the people and listen to their grievances. As a part of this exercise, Naveen would meet the people of ward No. 23 of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation on August 31.

Attending a party observers' meet, he asked them to complete ward-level meetings in the next three months and take the success of the state government's various development works to the people at the grassroots level. At the observers' meeting, a number of decisions were taken to take welfare measure to the downtrodden.

Keeping the BJP's aggressive campaign and bolstering its organisation at the booth level, the BJD has decided to strengthen its organisation at the ward level. While in many areas, four wards constitute a booth, there are places where six wards form a booth.

One of the co-ordinators for the party's ongoing programme "Amma Gaon, Amma Vikash" (Our Village, Our Development) and "Amma Sahara, Amma Unnatti" (Our Town, Our Progress), Bhupinder Singh, said: "Our preparatory meetings at the block level have already been completed. Now, our focus is to take the organisation to the booth level. It will be completed within next three months according to the direction of our party president."

Singh said: "The party has also decided to bring the Biju Parivar to the forefront. Committees will be constituted at the booth level for this."

Party vice-president and agriculture minister Damodar Rout said: "Our party president had a threadbare discussion on party affairs. After he left the meeting place, we also discussed about how the various weaknesses of the party can be strengthened."

Convener of the programme and former minister Debi Prasad Mishra said: "The observers from the 31 organisational districts were present in the meeting. Our party president listened to us and also he gave some suggestions on how to strengthen the party. Accordingly, we are preparing our plan and strategy."

In another development, minister Usha Devi, who was appointed by Naveen to probe into the attack on the BJD's Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, today said she had submitted her inquiry report to the party chief. Panda was attacked on May 30 while he was on his way to attend an event in his constituency. Many alleged that the attack was organised by the supporters of health minister Pratap Jena. However, Jena had categorically denied his involvement in the attack on his party colleague.
