More arrests in Usasi assault

Seven days after the assault on cine artist Usasi Mishra, police on Monday arrested four persons, including two of the three accused named in the complaint made by Mishra.

Angul: Seven days after the assault on cine artist Usasi Mishra, police on Monday arrested four persons, including two of the three accused named in the complaint made by Mishra.

The four arrested on Monday are Indramani Sahu, his younger son Rujit, Dushmanta Sahu and Sudhanshu Sekhar Nayak.

Indramani and his younger son Ranjit were named in the FIR field by Mishra. Dushmanta and Sudhanshu Sekhar have been accused of sheltering the culprits in the incident.

With Monday's arrests, the police have so far arrested five persons in connection with the incident. Earlier, the police had arrested Dushmant Behera from Deranga village.

The police also hope to arrest soon the third accused in the case, who is Ajit Sahu, the elder son of Indramani.

On April 23, Mishra had filed a complaint against Indramani and his two sons.

Angul police superintendent Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said that a car and six mobile phones were seized from these four persons arrested on Monday.

He said that Indramani and his sons had fled from their village immediately after the incident and had stayed in various private hotels and lodges in the district and other areas to evade arrest. Finally, police caught them near Kosala jungle near Angul on Sunday night.

"During interrogation, they revealed that Dushmanta and Sudhansu helped them in absconding and arranged for them rented private accommodation in Nalco area to remain in hiding. They also provided logistic support to them during their period in hiding," Mahapatra said.

The father-son duo, who were arrested and forwarded to court on Monday, will be brought on a five-day police remand. "Police will seek their remand. We are also making efforts to nab another son of Indramani who is still at large," said Mohapatra.

On the night of April 22, when Mishra had been to Deranga village to act in an opera, Indramani and his two sons allegedly abused her.

The assault sent shockwaves across the state with members of the Cine Artists Association meting the director general of police and demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
