Sambalpur, Feb. 1: Residents of Remed area within the limits of Ainthapali police station here today set a truck on fire after it hit a person at Larpang within Hirakud police station limits.

The man suffered severe injuries in the accident, said an eyewitness.

“The accident took place at Larpang around 1pm. The man was coming towards Sambalpur from Hirakud area on a cycle. The truck, which was coming from behind, hit the person,” said the eyewitness.

The truck sped away from the spot after the accident. The severely-injured person was taken to VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla for treatment.

The accident sparked off tension in the area as some local people, who were present at Larpang at the time of the accident, chased the truck in motorbikes and intercepted it at Remed.

There they set the truck on fire.

The Ainthapali police rushed to the spot to control the situation. The Police doused the fire with the help of the local people. The truck driver, however, fled the spot.
