Cuttack, July 22: People protested at various locations of the city against frequent waterlogging and dengue scare today.

Cuttack-Choudwar legislator Pravat Ranjan Biswal had to face public ire for the sorry state of drainage facilities at Nadikula Sahi in Sikhapur under ward No. 42 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Local residents surrounded Biswal soon after he came out of from a meeting held at the rural water supply and sanitation office near Potapokhari.

The protesters, including a number of women, forced the MLA to visit Nadikula Sahi and see the condition in which they were forced to live due to the lack of proper drainage.

The city witnessed a more than 100mm rain over the last week and several localities were waterlogged.

“This is a low-lying area and the civic body has installed a motor pump to overcome to waterlogging problem. But evidently, it is not adequate,” said Sidhart Das, another local resident.

Biswal said apart from Nadikula Sahi, several other localities were also waterlogged following heavy rains over the past three days.

“I visited the locality and asked the CMC commissioner and other officials to look into the problems of the people here,” he said.

Dengue scare

Residents of Nima Sahi demonstrated against the lack of adequate measures on part of the corporation to tackle the dengue menace.

The protesters burnt tyres and staged a road blockade at Seminary Chhack for more than an hour against the lack of fogging operations in the locality where dengue positive cases have been reported. Traffic was disrupted as Seminary Chhack is the converging point for traffic from Badambadi, Dolmundai, Jhola Sahi, Pithapur, Dargha Bazar, Buxi Bazar and other areas.
