Berhampur, Aug. 11: The casualty building of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here built at a cost of Rs 3.6 crore to facilitate emergency patients is ready for inauguration.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to inaugurate it tomorrow. The new building is situated behind the present outdoor building.
However, the infrastructure is extremely inadequate at the building. There is no ECG machine, pulsometer, ventilator, echo cardiogram, ultra sound and some necessary equipment in the casualty ward, said the vice-president of the Junior Doctors Association local unit Abinash Routray.
No additional posts of doctors and nurses have been created for casualty. There are only four assistant surgeons appointed there despite the fact that MCI guidelines state there should be one chief casualty officer, four casualty officers and adequate technicians, he said.
The junior doctors went on cease work to protest against the lack of facilities in various departments and also the casualty ward in December. But the situation remains unchanged, said Routray.
On the other hand, superintendent of the hospital Ashok Kumar Behera said: "The new building is a four-storey one with two elevators and we will provide more beds and facilities for the patients at the new building."
"The old casualty ward that ran in the outdoor department had only eight beds and was disorganised. We will provide casualty facilities on the ground floor, trauma care service on the first floor, medicine patient service on the second floor and a 20-bed intensive care unit on the top floor," said Behera
